INSURGENCYNEMA: Solar Powered Guerrilla Cinema

Theoretically Speaking if We Had to Put Ourselves in a Text Box
The brewing of skills, people and ideas to create a artistic society in flux (spontaneity, responsive, interactive with environment), but to two consistencies; to rebel the corporate art system and to create our own, to rebel the mainstream media and create our own. Guerrilla Cinema is environmentally and socially aware form of direct action over our corporately hijacked arts and media stream in Melbourne.
Guerrilla Cinema presents a group of artistic pirates who observes ruefully around at the contemporary cultural landscape and sees little other than visual and sonic evidence of a world made ugly, dull and boring by the all-pervasive influence of commerce. Ads and posters for products dominate the streets; company logos adorn every other piece of clothing, cars and buildings. Less can be done in our contemporary creative city of Melbourne without a healthy amount of money in your pocket. We live in an electronically mediated urban environment where we are constantly under surveillance by unseen authority. Anonymity is becoming rare and almost illegal. The need to identify with a culture outside the global spectacle is being felt by young people here in Melbourne, and all around the world.
It is a mischievous reclamation of public space to be shared together as community, disengaging with the usual avenues for creative expression and exhibition criteria. You don’t need money or the vocabulary, ego and ability to smooge with the institutional, trendy and academic crowds and their consequential hierarchies. We welcome everyone without prejudice and exclusivity in creating real artistic communities to skill-share, educate and entertain.
We are creating our own environments using renewable energy, without hindering or destroying public space or property. We are simply recycling wasted and forgotten spaces in our cities and landscapes and turning them into a playground for creativity. We acknowledge the traditional landowners and respect our environments by leaving them how we found them, or not entering sacred or painful places of our indigenous people.
INSURGENCYNEMA
Insurgencynema is a visual communication tool for creative and spontaneous nomadic projections that can interact with any environment, such as empty city spaces (warehouses, car parks, buildings, billboards etc) as well as outer city landscapes like desert, beaches, forest blockades etc. Because of its portability due to much research into lightweight we have the ability to travel wherever we like, including arbitrary missions or difficult places underground etc, with the assistance of a custom made bike trailer.
Initially and essentially, the system has been researched, developed and designed in order to communicate environmental and social issues through film, but applying also the philosophy to practice, by designing a system that is environmentally and socially sustainable. It has been constructed by a dedicated group of environmental and social activists and students who strive to use the system in educating the wider community (primary & high schools, universities, general public, other enviro/social justice groups or activist groups) about issues that may not be easily communicated in mainstream media, in a creative, interactive and fun environment; one where the viewer learns and questions themselves and their perception of the world through a creative experience instead of a static, apathetic form of education.
The Insurgencynema Collective have since discovered a whole range of uses and communities interested in its application, and we are growing and learning in an organic fashion to the amazing array of opportunities for usage. The system is essentially a creative communication tool where the interaction of the environment, information and audience changes the experience and communication. As a collective we have power to choose its usage to remain for sustainable and non-corporate principles, but are willing to hold DIY skill shares and workshops to educate others safely in developing their own systems for uses our collective might find unsuitable to our visions, goals, function or structure.
We are an organic, adaptive, growing, learning collective
The collective are a group of people who get together regularly to plan creative projects & events, and are interested in solar powered technology & environmental issues. We all have different ideas, theories, interests and skills with the common goal of making the guerrilla cinema a sustainable activity and collective. This website is an attempt at representing our common threads though we are all individuals and are autonomous in responsibility for ourselves in actions, belief systems, communication and art. This website IS NOT everything that we are, but purely to attempt to communicate the project and our visions to the wider community. We are constantly and organically in flux of development and hopefully we can express openly how we are developing and working as we go! YAY. now get subversive!
